FALL ENROLLMENT APPROACHING
LAWRENCE - The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department announces enrollment
for Fall 2003 classes and activities will begin Monday, August 4, at its
recreation facilities.
The 2003 Fall Activities Guide will be distributed through the Sunday,
August 3, edition of the Lawrence Journal-World, as well as at any Parks and
Recreation Department facility including the: Community Building, 115 West
11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th St.; Holcom Park
Recreation Center, 2700 West 27th St.; Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706
Overland Drive; Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St. or South Park
Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St. The Activities Guide will be made
available at the locations on Monday, August 4, but fall course schedules
can currently be found online at www.lprd.org through the online
registration link. While you may view classes, you will not be able to
enroll in courses online until Sunday, August 3.
Besides the new feature of enrolling online, Citizens have several options
for registering for classes including: faxing, mailing or visiting a
neighborhood recreation center, the Indoor Aquatic Center or Prairie Park
Nature Center. Online enrollment is a new feature this fall and can be
accessed from a link on the Lawrence Parks and Recreation website at
www.lprd.org.
The department has developed over 250 programs and activities in which
citizens of all ages may participate. Programs and activities range from
swim lessons to strength training for seniors, from tiny tots tennis to
adult softball.
All program registration is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. Certain
classes and programs have minimum or maximum enrollment. Registration is
required before the first class. Waiting lists will be formed when programs
are filled and every attempt will be made to accommodate people on waiting
lists.
Discounts are available for adults over 60 years of age, and the department
also has a scholarship program for those needing assistance with payment.
Scholarship applications are available at all recreation centers. No one
meeting scholarship criteria will be denied participation in any department
program.
Fall classes begin the week of September 8, 2003.
For addition information regarding Park and Recreation activities, contact
the department at 785-832-7920.
