Detour required for tree removal/Transit Route 1 affected

(LAWRENCE, KS) - The Parks and Recreation Forestry crew will be removing a
large dead tree from the 1200 block of Haskell Avenue on Wednesday, July 23.
The removal work will occur in the street requiring the closure of Haskell
Avenue from 12th Street to 13th Street from 7:30a.m. to 3p.m. Detour signs
will be placed in the area to guide passenger vehicles traveling east on
11th Street onto Delaware Street to 13th Street. Traffic traveling north on
Haskell Avenue will be detoured at 13th Street onto Delaware then to 11th
Street. Traffic will not be permitted east of Delaware Street on 11th
Street.

Tractors with semi trailers should use Connecticut Street to 15th Street
rather than Delaware Street because the turns along the detour will be
difficult to maneuver for large vehicles.

If the tree removal efforts cannot be completed in one day, the detour will
be continued on Thursday, July 24 at 7:30a.m.

During the detour, the Lawrence Transit System, Route 1 inbound, will bypass
Haskell Avenue from 13th Street to 11th Street utilizing 13th Street to
Pennsylvania Street and then back on route at 11th Street. Route 1 outbound
will travel from the intersection of 11th Street and Delaware one block west
to Pennsylvania Street then south to 13th Street and on to Haskell Avenue,
returning to the regular route. The "T" will resume the existing route as
soon as Haskell Avenue reopens.
