"Tree-cycling" helps out environment
(Lawrence, Kansas)- The City of Lawrence Solid Waste Division crews will
collect live-cut Christmas trees for recycling from local households on
Monday, December 30; Monday, January 6; and Monday, January 13. The trees
will become new homes for area wildlife.
To prepare the trees for use by wildlife, remove all lights, decorations,
tinsel, ornaments, and tree stands. The tree may be placed next to your
regular trash container for pickup. Those serviced by dumpsters should
place the tree beside the dumpster.
Christmas trees from the 2002 holiday season will be collected and
wind-rowed for wildlife habitat at the closed Riverfront Landfill.
Tree-Cycling DOES make a difference. Over the last three years, more than
125 tons or about 10,000 Christmas trees were collected, processed and used
as erosion control and wildlife habitat. That's an average of 41.7 tons
each year!
This year's tree-cycling offers your family an opportunity to put a little
green back in the City of Lawrence by making tree-cycling part of your
holiday tradition.
Residents are asked to set their trees out by 6 a.m. on one of the three
collection days.
For more information, contact Crank at 832-3016.
