End of year brings call for interested citizens

(Lawrence, Kansas - Several advisory board terms expire in December of
each year and Mayor Sue Hack is issuing a call for Lawrence citizens to
get involved.

Advisory boards serve the City Commission by being experts in a specific
area. Boards are able to advise and suggest methods or practices that
meet the goals in an area.

Currently forty advisory boards serve the Lawrence City Commission
providing input and advise on subjects ranging from aviation to
university student issues.

"When discussing a variety of topics, the City Commission is often able
to tap a valuable resource, advisory boards, for information and
suggestions that incorporate the input of the community," explains Sue
Hack, mayor. Hack continues, "Serving on an advisory board is one way
to contribute your skills to the Lawrence community. I encourage
everyone to consider lending their time and input."

Appointments to boards vary from two to four years. A majority of
boards meet monthly with some tasks occurring outside the regular
meetings. Appointments are recommended by the Mayor and must be
approved by the City Commission.

An example of the work completed by advisory boards is the Special
Alcohol Fund Advisory Board that reviews requests and makes
recommendations to the City Commission on the use of funds in the City
Special Alcohol and Drug Abuse Fund. The advisory board also recommends
reporting requirements by recipients and receives direction from the
City Commission to study, review and make recommendations on other
matters related to alcohol and drug abuse.

Listed below are existing and upcoming vacancies on City of Lawrence

Lawrence, Kansas, 66044.
