CHILDREN TO COMPETE IN SPLISH 'N SPLASH SPORTSFEST
LAWRENCE - The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department announces a team
competition to test teams' aquatic sports skills. The "Splish 'n Splash
SportsFest" is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Lawrence Indoor
Aquatic Center.
Teams of four will compete in two age divisions, 7 to 10 years old and
11 to 13 years old, for prizes and awards. Those 7 to 10 years old will
compete from 1 to 4 p.m. and competitors 11 to 13 will compete from 5 to
8 p.m. Events for the competition include: water volleyball and
basketball, swimming relays, diving competitions, water polo, water
bowling and the "best splash" competition.
Teams of four are encouraged to sign up within one of the two age
divisions. Individuals may also sign up and be placed on a team the day
of the competition. Registration deadline is Friday, Nov. 8. Cost is $40
per team or $10 for an individual. For more information, please contact

HOLIDAY TOUR OF HOMES SCHEDULED
LAWRENCE - The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is offering a
holiday one-day getaway to historic Abilene, Kan., for the City's annual
Christmas Parade of Homes Saturday, Dec. 7.
The tour will depart from Lawrence at noon from the Union Pacific Depot
and will arrive in Abilene around 2 p.m. The first stop of the tour
will be at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Library and Museum, the library of
the 34th President of the United States. Individuals will be able to
explore the museum, boyhood home and final resting place of the
President and Mrs. Eisenhower.
At 3:45 p.m., the tour of homes will begin. This year there are five
homes on display. After the tour, dinner will be provided at Mr. K's
Farmhouse with departure set at 7:15 p.m., for a 9 p.m. return to
Lawrence. Price is $54, which includes transportation, admission to the
museum, Christmas Homes Tour and dinner.
Registration deadline is Monday, Nov. 25. For more information, contact
