City infrastructure improvement projects

(LAWRENCE, KS) - City of Lawrence Utility Department crews will begin
water line replacement on W. 5th St. from California St. west to 1924 W.
5th next week.  Traffic on W. 5th will be restricted to local traffic.
The project should be completed approximately December 6, weather
permitting.  

Plans to patch the intersection of 15th and Iowa Streets were delayed by
the weather.  The Street Division will be patching the intersection of
15th St. and Iowa St. the week of November 4, weather permitting. There
will be intermittent lane closings in the turning lanes between 8a.m.
and 3p.m. Monday through Friday.

Weather delayed Union Pacific Railroad work on the railroad tracks that
cross the entrance to Riverfront Park.  Crews will begin work on
November 8, weather permitting. The work will block the entrance to the
park, closing the park during construction.  Work should be completed
approximately November 13, weather permitting.

Contractors plan to place concrete on Naismith at 21st St. to permit
southbound traffic on Naismith by Monday, November 4, weather
permitting.

City infrastructure improvement projects for the week of November 4:

Storm sewer improvements

21st St., closed, Ousdahl Road to east of Naismith, completed
approximately May 2003, weather permitting

Naismith southbound, scheduled to open to through traffic on Monday,
November 4, weather permitting

19th Terr., 20th St. and 20th Terr., open to local traffic, periodical
closure during work day

Water line installation
Vermont St., 23rd St. to 2368 Vermont St., final grading and seeding
underway, no traffic interruptions

Intersection of 9th and Iowa, traffic interruptions, completed
approximately December 31, weather permitting, date extended due to
weather and excavating

W. 5th St., California St. west to 1924 W. 5th, completed approximately
December 6, weather permitting, local traffic only on W. 5th St.

Road improvements
K-10 at East Hills Drive, traffic limited to one lane each direction,
8:30am until 4pm, completed approximately November 30, weather
permitting, extended due to weather

31st St., Ousdahl Rd. to Iowa St., traffic reduced to one lane each
direction

Entrance to Riverfront Park, railroad track removal, park closed,
beginning November 8 lasting to November 13, weather permitting

North Michigan, no through traffic north of the Woodcreek Town homes
entrance to Riverridge Road, completed approximately summer of 2003,
weather permitting

Sanitary sewer project
Belle Haven, Utah Ct to 27th St, Survey and design work underway
Louisiana, Utah Ct to 27th St, Survey and design work underway

Sidewalk repair
W. 10th at 1021 W. 10th St., south side
Watson Park by the train 
Holcom Park, along the north side of 27th St. and east side of Lawrence
Ave.

Recreational Path Repair
Clinton Parkway, south side from Kasold Drive to Crossgate Drive and
Iowa St. to Lawrence Ave., path will be closed during construction,
completed approximately November 15, weather permitting

Traffic signal improvements
Clinton Parkway at Lawrence Ave., adding protected left turn lanes,
completed approximately December 31, weather permitting, only temporary
traffic interruptions for brief time spans

Street repair
15th and Iowa, patching, intermittent lane closings in turning lanes
between 8a.m. and 3p.m. Monday trough Friday
