City infrastructure improvement projects

(LAWRENCE, KS) - Sidewalk repairs continue during the week of October 21
as contractors will be working on the south side West 10th at 1021 West
10th Street and in Watson Park by the train and Holcom Park, along the
north side of 27th Street and east side of Lawrence Avenue.

The Recreational Path along the south side of Clinton Parkway from
Kasold Drive to Crossgate Drive and Iowa Street to Lawrence Avenue will
be replaced.  The path will be closed for construction and should reopen
approximately November 15, weather permitting.

Starting October 24, the Union Pacific Railroad will be removing the
railroad tracks that cross the entrance to Riverfront Park, located east
of the intersection of Highways 24/40/59.  The work will require the
closing of the park entrance during the project.  Work should be
completed approximately October 31, weather permitting.

Contractors are working to add protected left turns for east west
traffic at Clinton Parkway and Lawrence Avenue.  The project involves
new pole foundations, installation of new mast arms, improved wiring,
placing underground conduit, hanging new signals and removing old mast
arms.  Work should be completed approximately December 31, weather
permitting.  During the project, only temporary traffic interruptions
are expected and will occur in brief time spans.

City infrastructure improvement projects for the week of October 24:

Milling, Overlay 

Indiana, 1600 to 1700 block, curb replacement underway, is on schedule
to be completed by October 18, weather permitting, intermittent lane
closures

Storm sewer improvements

21st Street, closed, Ousdahl Road to east of Naismith, completed
approximately May 2003, weather permitting

Naismith southbound, closed south of 19th Street, completed
approximately September 31, weather permitting

19th Terrace, 20th Street and 20th Terrace, open to local traffic,
periodical closure during work day

Large Line Cleaning and Inspection Project
27th and Crossgate, intermittent traffic interruption
31st and Atchison, intermittent traffic interruption
2nd and Michigan, intermittent traffic interruption
31st and Louisiana, intermittent traffic interruption
project should be completed approximately October 31, weather permitting

Water line installation
Vermont Street, 23rd Street to 2368 Vermont Street, parking restricted
and traffic from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., completed approximately October
25, weather permitting

Intersection of 9th and Iowa, traffic interruptions, completed
approximately November 30, weather permitting

Road improvements
K-10 at East Hills Drive, traffic limited to one lane each direction,
8:30am until 4pm, completed approximately November 15, weather
permitting

31st St., Ousdahl Rd. to Iowa St., traffic reduced to one lane each
direction

Entrance to Riverfront Park, railroad track removal, park closed,
completed October 31, weather permitting

Sanitary sewer project
Belle Haven, Utah Ct to 27th St, Survey and design work underway
Louisiana, Utah Ct to 27th St, Survey and design work underway

Sidewalk repair
West 10th at 1021 West 10th Street, south side
Watson Park by the train 
Holcom Park, along the north side of 27th Street and east side of
Lawrence Avenue

Recreational Path Repair
Clinton Parkway, south side from Kasold Drive to Crossgate Drive and
Iowa Street to Lawrence Avenue, path will be closed during construction,
completed approximately November 15, weather permitting

Traffic signal improvements
Clinton Parkway at Lawrence Avenue, adding protected left turn lanes,
completed approximately December 31, weather permitting, only temporary
traffic interruptions for  brief time spans
