Road improvements planned for North Michigan

(Lawrence, Ks) - Beginning Monday October 28, KDOT contractors will
begin improvements to North Michigan, weather permitting. A total
reconstruction of the road is planned as well as storm drainage
improvements including construction of a storm box culvert, curbs and
sidewalks.

To accommodate the construction work, through traffic will not be
allowed on North Michigan from Riverridge to Second Street.

Individuals using North Michigan in their travel should plan an
alternate route. Local traffic for residents in the affected area will
be permitted, however, local residents will also have to adapt to
changing traffic access patterns during the project. At some point,
access maybe limited to only one direction requiring residents to enter
the project construction area from one direction or the other to access
their homes.

The project will last until the summer of 2003. Because of the large
scope of the project, contractors will be able to begin working in the
fall on excavation and the preparation for the box culvert. Through the
winter, crews will be able to excavate and place pre-cast materials and
by spring, construction of the remaining road grading and surface will
be underway as weather allows. The final surface will be paved in the
summer of 2003.
