About Iniades

Iniades (other names: Oiniades, Oiniadai, Iniade) is actually a collection of smaller villages administratively combined and governed as a single municipal entity. In 2001, it had a combined population of 10,227. It is largely agricultural in nature and is located on the west edge of Greece adjoining the Ionian Sea and the Gulf of Patras. This is the official web site of Iniades.

Iniades can be reached by a four hour bus trip from Athens.

Iniades is also close to the western Greek port city of Patra, the third largest city in Greece. Patra is served by European air carriers, by rail, and by many international ferry connections to Italy.

A feature of Iniades is an ancient outdoor theatre which is the locale for an annual summer theatre festival.

The University of Kansas has had a summer study abroad program in theatre in Iniades and its village of Katohi since 1990. Iniades became a sister city with Lawrence in November, 2009. Possible exchange programs are currently being explored.
