2. Approve Minutes from the November 2011 Meeting
3. Receive Report from the Nominating Committee
4. Focus area one: Lawrence Arts Coordinator
Our goal (with one currently dissenting) is to have the position hired and working by January 2013. Our challenge is to develop workable strategies for engaging our constituency in helping us make a strong request to the Lawrence City Commission for this position to be funded in the 2013 budget and to assign ourselves as individuals tasks to forward this goal. 5. Focus area two: Agree on a "strawman" vision statement for Lawrence as a city of the arts.
We are aiming for a statement that captures the message about arts and culture in Lawrence that Lawrence will present to the world at large. Our next step in this initiative will be to and ask for input by circulating the proposed city-wide vision statement with some short notes on the thinking behind it to our arts list, the Arts Lawrence FaceBook page, and to the mailing lists of the organizations that are willing to forward the message, and invite comments at our February meeting. We can then synthesize responses and present the final statement to the Lawrence City Commission for approval/adoption.
6. Focus area three: Reconsider LCAC’s 2007 vision statement and strategic plan. Cedar City Arts Council Vision Lawrence Final Fridays Impact Analysis and Recommendations
The LCAC (see bios) exists as an advisory body to the City of Lawrence, it answers to the City Commission. Artists and arts organizations in Lawrence see LCAC's role as that of advocate for the arts to the City. While these are clear expectations, strategies to meet them are not as clear. Critical materials:
- Resolution 6773, the City's current legal description of the LCAC's responsibilities
- The description of what we do from our own website
- The existing LCAC vision statement and strategic plan
