Project: Iowa Street Reconstruction - South of Harvard to Irving Hill | Detour Information

Traffic Impact: All eastbound and westbound lanes of 15th Street/Bob Billings Parkway at the U.S. 59/Iowa Street intersection in Lawrence will be CLOSED to all traffic, 24/7 round the clock, for pavement reconstruction work beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, May 20. A marked detour will be provided. Drivers should expect major delays during peak travel times and must use alternate routes during this closure.

If possible, it is recommended to avoid this area during the construction. East/west traffic should utilize 23rd Street or 6th Street; north/south traffic should use Kasold or Kentucky Streets. Starting on May 20, the intersection of 15th/BBP and Iowa will be closed to all east/west traffic after commencement ceremonies at Kansas University and will not re-open until mid-August.

This is a $6.6 million project which is paid for using KDOT Highway Safety funding, KDOT Surface Transportation Program funding and city sales tax.

Project Timeline: February 2013 to December 2013 (Intersection closure - May 20 to August 16 2013)

Recommended Detour: East/west traffic to use 23rd Street or 6th Street, Kasold or Kentucky Streets for north/southbound traffic
